In honor of National Library Week, a daylong celebration kicked off at the Hagatna facility today. Kids and their parents took part in story time, library tours, a book sale, and checked out the island's BookMobile, which is up and running once again was also open for those interested to look inside.

Acting director Cristina Watson presented the library's major supporters with a thank you presentation. She says without the community support, the library's new look and the BookMobile's comeback would have not been possible. She added that Matson Navigation was instrumental in putting the BookMobile back out on the road, adding, "Matson and their parent company, Alexander and Baldwin, have supplied the funding for the repair and refurbishment and upkeep of the vehicle."

The 28th Guam Legislature, represented by senators Bob Klitzkie and Larry Kasperbauer, showed up to present Watson with an expression of gratitude of their own, and presented the acting director with resolution 52. Said Senator Kasperbauer, "We commend and congratulate all librarians and those working in the library those serving on the board those who have made donations, the various businesses who make the BookMobile possible and get it out on the streets."

Up next for the Guam Public Library System is the annual Summer Reading Program, which kicks off in June.
