It was Day 2 of budget hearings at the Legislature on Friday. Among others, the Guam Energy Office, the Civil Service Commission, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Land Management appeared before Vice Speaker Frank Aguon Jr.'s Committee on Budget and Appropriations.

He says the senators role is to try to help the government agencies tighten their belts, as well as warning them it isn't business as usual. “We're letting them know, and that's the direction this committee will continue to go,” he said.

In the meantime, Aguon says he hasn't put out a budget bill yet. He said, “The reason for that is that I was under the impression the proposal from the Governor would be in bill form. Unfortunately, since it wasn't, my staff is in the process of formulating that.” The Vice Speaker says his staff will be working over the weekend to get the bill together while senators take a break from hearings. On Monday, however, it'll be back to the task of hearing from the agencies and departments.

In the meantime, if you're keeping track of attendance at the meetings both Senator Robert Klitzkie and Vice Speak Aguon have perfect attendance. The only two senators to not attend a hearing as of early this afternoon were senators Rory Respicio and John Quinata.
