The Guam Chapter of the 3rd Marine Division Association gathered at the
Legislature this afternoon in honor and tribute to the birthday of the
United States Marine Corps. to escort Bill 214 to the Clerk’s Office.
President of the association, retired Marine Corps Col. Joaquin “Danny”
Santos says it is only fitting that the bill renaming Marine Drive to
Marine Corps Drive be done in the tradition and memory to the Marines
who landed on the island 59 years ago.
Col Danny Santos says, “This is very appropriate to introduce the
resolution today, because today is the 228th anniversary of the United
States Marine Corps. And as we prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary
next year, July 21, 2004, we felt that this resolution was very appropriate
to kick it off and rename the Marine Drive, Marine Corps Drive. We also
felt that over the years the significance and the purpose of Marine Drive
has lost its importance.”
